A young man has undergone surgery after he was stabbed in a “vicious and unprovoked” attack in St Kilda on Monday morning.
Police said the 26-year-old man was walking along Wellington Street just after 3am when he was stabbed in the lower back and arm.
The victim sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Detective Sergeant Eddie Logonder said the man was driven to The Alfred hospital.
The victim was in a stable condition following emergency surgery today but was unable to provide police with a description of his attackers.
“This was a vicious and unprovoked attack,” Mr Logonder said. “He had gone to buy cigarettes. He recalls two men running along the street towards St Kilda Road and as he crossed the road he felt a blow to his back."
